THB is a guitar-rock-jazz band formed in 2006
in Lahr, Germany. The band evolved from an recording studio project
consisted of Thomas Hoppler and Manuel Bräuner. The two musicians run a
recording studio in which they also worked on instrumental compositions by
Thomas Hoppler.
The music fuses rock, jazz-rock and fusion
and forms an unique style which is dominated by the melodic and likewise
virtuoso guitar played by Thomas Hoppler. Starting musically as a heavy
metal fan he soon developed great interest for the guitarists Joe Satriani
and Steve Vai. He studied their technique and compositions but always
intended to create his own style.
The first original studio versions of his
compositions were produced, when he joined Manuel Bräuner. The drummer
completed the songs with his powerful and also precise and creative style.
His musical background ranges from punk to fusion and jazz and so he was the
perfect addition for this project.
When they had enough material for an album
the line-up was added by the bass player Peter Vetter. From now on THB was a
complete band and after some months of rehearsals they started to play live
gigs.
In 2008 THB gained the German Rock and Pop
Award in the categories “Best Guitar Player” and “Best Fusion Jazz-Rock
Band”.
In 2009 the debut album “Home” was released.
Though the preparations and the mixing lasted months the recording for
itself was finished within three days. The band is very proud of this,
because they wanted to catch the character of a live playing band. This live
approach method required that the entire band played the songs through in
one take, which is much more difficult than the usual studio method in which
each instrument is recorded separately in isolation.
